The seven sacraments are ceremonies that point to what is sacred, significant and important for Christians. They are special occasions for experiencing God's saving presence. That's what theologians mean when they say that sacraments are at the same time signs and instruments of God's grace.

The Seven Sacraments are:  Baptism, Reconciliation, Holy Eucharist, Confirmation, Marriage, Holy Orders, Anointing of the Sick.  

Baptism

Infant Baptism Preparation at St. Brigid Catholic Church

St.Brigid welcomes all Catholic parents to seek Baptism for their infant child.  Soon after a child’s birth, parents should call the parish office to register themselves and the godparents for a Baptism Preparation Class.  At this class, both parents and godparents will receive information and instruction on the origins of the Sacrament, living a faith filled life, and nurturing the faith of the child; as well as meeting with an ordained priest or deacon of the parish.  The duration of this instruction is usually no more than two hours.  At the completion of the class, participants will receive a Certificate verifying they have attended and this certificate meets the requirements of Baptism Preparation for most Dioceses in the country.  Currently the English preparation classes are held on the third Wednesday of the month in the parish office.  Times may be obtained by calling the parish office (559-582-2533).  There are no requirements to attend the class other than the desire to baptize an infant.

Prior to selecting godparents for their child, parents should consider the following Diocesan Policy:

“Godparents must have received Baptism, Confirmation and the Holy Eucharist, should be at least 16 years of age, and should be practicing Catholics who are able to give the example of a good Catholic life.  There are normally to be two godparents, one man and one woman.” 

(To further clarify this policy, godparents that are married should be married in the Catholic Church and unmarried godparents must not be living with anyone in a sexual relationship.)

To reserve a date, a non-refundable $50 stipend will be necessary.

In additon to the Baptism Preparation Class Certificate, the following certificates are required to be provided to the parish office:

• Child’s birth certificate
• Godfather Confirmation Certificate
• Godfather Church Marriage Certificate (if married)
• Godmother Confirmation Certificate
• Godmother Church Marriage Certificate (if married)

Baptisms are scheduled on Saturdays according to the availability of the ordained priest or deacon.  There may be other Baptisms scheduled on the same day, but in rare instances are there more than five families scheduled on one day.

Baptisms for persons 7 years of age or over, religious education instruction will be provided.  Information may be obtained by calling the Religious Education Department, 583-6563.

Preparación De Bautizos en  La Parroquia de Santa Brígida

Santa Brígida les da la bienvenida a todos los Padres de Familia quienes buscan el Sacramento del Bautizo para su niño(a). Inmediatamente después del nacimiento del bebe, los padres deben llamar a la oficina de la parroquia para registrarse como familia junto con los  padrinos de Bautizo y apuntarse para las clases de preparación para el Bautizo de su niño(a). Es importante que a esta clase, los padres del bebe y los padrinos estén presentes. En la clase ellos recibirán información del origen de este Sacramento, como vivir una vida plena de Fe, en la Fe Católica, y como ayudar a su bebe en su formación de Fe, al igual de que tendrán la oportunidad de compartir con el Sacerdote o Diacono de nuestra parroquia.

La clase dura 2 horas. Al final de la clase, los participantes recibirán un Certificado verificando su asistencia. Este certificado por lo regular cumple los requisitos de la preparación del Bautismo para todas las diócesis en el país. Las preparaciones de Bautismo en ingles se llevan a cabo el tercer martes del mes a las 7:00 p.m., y las preparaciones de Bautizo en español, se llevan a cabo el tercer domingo del mes a las 2:00 p.m. (después de La Santa Misa). Ambas clases de preparación se ofrecen en la oficina de la parroquia en sus respectivos días. Para asistir a la clase de bautismo debe registrarse antes en la oficina de la parroquia. Antes de seleccionar los padrinos para su niño(a), debe considerar los siguientes requisitos de parte de la Diócesis:

“Los padrinos deben ser bautizados, confirmados, haber hecho su Primera Comunión, y ser mayores de 16 anos. Deben ser Católicos practicantes, quienes puedan dar un buen ejemplo de su vida como Católicos. Los  padrinos deben ser un hombre y una mujer. Que no tienen relaciones sexuales fuera del matrimonio."

Para clarificar más aun este requisito, los padrinos que están casados, deben de presentar el acta de matrimonio por la Iglesia. La pareja que viven juntos y no están casados por la Iglesia Católica no pueden ser padrinos. Una persona solera puede ser padrino/madrina mientras no viva en amasiato.  Después de atender la clase de preparación del Bautismo, el siguiente paso es hacer una cita para el Bautizo de su niño(a).

Los siguientes certificados deben de traerse a la oficina para obtener una cita:

• Acta de nacimiento del bebe
• Certificado de Confirmación del padrino
• Acta de Matrimonio del padrino ( si está casado)
• Certificado de Confirmación de la madrina
• Acta de Matrimonio de la madrina ( si está casada)

Los Bautizos generalmente toman lugar un sábado o en la tarde de un domingo y de acuerdo a la disponibilidad del sacerdote o del diacono. Posiblemente habrán mas Bautizos apuntados para un mismo día, en raros casos puede haber más de cuatro familias apuntadas para Bautizar en un día. 

Cuando el niño(a), es mayor de 6 anos, debe asistir al Catecismo antes de ser Bautizado. Para mas información llame a la  oficina de Educación Religiosa, 583-6563, para registrar a su niño(a) al catecismo.

  
Holy Eucharist  
First received in third grade. Two year Religious Education Program preparation or Catholic School preparation required.

Reconciliation  
Tuesday at 7:30 AM and 5:30 PM and Thursday at 7:30 AM and 12:00 PM (Noon). Also by appointment by calling the parish office at 582-2533. Sacrament of Reconciliation is first received in third grade.

Confirmation  
Two-year preparation until Confirmation is received in at least Junior year of high school.

Marriage  
An appointment with the Pastor six months prior to marriage is required.  Please contact by calling the parish office, 582-2533.

Holy Orders   
Contact the parish office for an appointment with the Pastor.  Or, the Diocese Vocations Office is 488-7424.   Program is 6 to 9 years duration until ordination.

Anointing of the Sick   
Please do not hesitate to contact the parish office on an as needed basis, 582-2533.
