Saint Michael the Archangel is the leader of all angels. His four duties are to combat Satan, escort the faithful to heaven at their hour of death, to be a champion of all Christians (and the Church itself), and to call men from life on Earth to their heavenly judgment.
The words on his shield, “Quis ut Deus,” are the Latin translation for Michael, which means “Who [is] like God?” St. Michael is shown standing on a defeated, reptile-like Satan.
St. Michael is invoked for protection and is the patron saint of soldiers, police and doctors.
